Mary Ann Shadd Cary: Delaware's Forgotten Daughter

April 6 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Mary Ann Shadd Cary sounds like a modern-day superwoman – a teacher, journalist, editor, feminist, lawyer, wife, and mother with a steadfast commitment to racial and gender equality.
In fact, born nearly 200 years ago, Mary Ann Shadd Cary was a richly accomplished African American woman who played a role in the Underground Railroad, served as a recruitment officer for soldiers for the Black Union Army, worked for the women’s suffrage movement alongside Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, was the first female African American newspaper editor in North America, and earned a law degree
