BOARD OF ELECTIONS

OCTOBER 1, 2021

Board members Cheryl Hoopes and Loretta Lodge called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.  In attendance were Jennifer Mulligan, Town Clerk, and guests.

Ms. Mulligan stated that she carefully worked with the Kent County Board of Elections to verify the Petitions of Candidacy signatures for each candidate.  She explained that due to the redistricting that recently took place, they were also double checking to make sure each voter was in the proper ward.

Ms. Mulligan stated that there were five (5) petitions for candidacy received as follows:

Mayor:

John David Foster filed on September 20, 2021 and met the residency requirements for the position of Mayor.  He had a total of forty-three (43) signatures on his petition for Candidacy.  Thirty-six (36) signatures were verified as registered voters within the Town limits of Chestertown.

First Ward:

Robert Miller filed his petition on September 29, 2021 and met the residency requirements for Councilmember.  He had a total of twenty-eight (28) signatures, all of which were verified as registered voters within the First Ward of Chestertown.

Tim O’Brien filed his petition on September 30, 2021 and met the residency requirements for Councilmember.  He had a total of twenty-five (25) signatures, all of which were verified as registered voters within the First Ward of Chestertown.

Third Ward:

Edward Gallo filed his petition on October 1, 2021 and met the residency requirements for Councilmember.  He had a total of twenty-six (26) signatures, all of which were verified as registered voters within the Third Ward of Chestertown.

Jose Medrano filed his petition on September 29, 2021 and met the residency requirements.  He had a total of twenty-three (23) signatures, all of which were verified as registered voters within the Third Ward of Chestertown.

The ballot for the November 2, 2021 election will read as follows:

Mayor:           John David Foster

First Ward:    Robert Miller

Tim O’Brien

Third Ward:  Edward Gallo

Jose Medrano

Ms. Mulligan stated that she instructed each candidate that she will follow up with them next week to ensure that the financial disclosure and campaign finance documents are in order and on file.

There being no further business, Ms. Hoopes moved to close the meeting at 5:15 p.m., was seconded by Ms. Lodge and carried unanimously.
