Resisting Extortion: Victims, Criminals, and States in Latin America

October 27, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Dr. Eduardo Moncada, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Barnard College, Columbia University, will discuss his latest book, Resisting Extortion: Victims, Criminals, and States in Latin America. When and how do victims of organized crime mobilize to resist? This presentation shows how the capacity of victims to engage in collective action, the nature of relations between victims and government, and whether police are captured by criminal organizations generate different forms of resistance to extortion by armed criminal actors.
