POLLING PLACE: Chestertown Volunteer Fire Department, 211 Maple Avenue. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

NOTICE TO CANDIDATES
On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, the Town of Chestertown will hold an election to elect a Mayor and Councilmembers from the 1st and 3rd Wards. Any person desiring to have his or her name placed on the official ballot must file a Petition of Candidacy with the Chestertown Supervisors of Elections at the Town Office, 118 N. Cross Street, Chestertown, Maryland, meeting the requirements as described in the Charter for the Town of Chestertown. Petition forms and information may be obtained in the Town Office. The Town of Chestertown will begin accepting Petitions for Candidacy Thursday, August 31, 2017. Petitions must be filed at the Town Office no later than 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2017.

CHARTER REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDACY
Any person desiring to have his/her name placed upon the official ballot at the time of election for Mayor or Councilmember, shall at least thirty (30) days prior to the election file with the Supervisors of Election, a petition setting forth his/her name, residence, age, the length of time he/she has lived in the town, the office which he/she seeks, and such petition shall be signed by at least twenty (20) qualified voters, and in case of a candidate for Councilmember, the voters signing the said petition shall reside within the limits of the ward for which he/she is a candidate.
The Mayor of said town shall be a legal voter of said town at the time of his/her election, not less than twenty-one (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States, and shall have been a resident within the limits of said town at the time of his/her election, and shall have been a resident of said town for not less than two (2) years next previous to the date of the election.
The Councilmembers of said town shall be legal voters of said town at the time of their election, not less than twenty-one (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States, and shall have been a resident within the limits of said town for not less than one (1) year next previous to the date of their election. Each of said Councilmembers shall dwell for not less than thirty (30) days prior to the date of his election in the ward which he/she is elected to represent.
NOTICE OF VOTER REGISTRATION – TOWN OF CHESTERTOWN
All residents of the Town who intend to vote in the Town election of Tuesday, November 7, 2017 must be registered with the Kent County Board of Election Supervisors on or before Friday, October 6, 2017. Town of Chestertown residents currently registered with the County are automatically registered to vote in Town elections. The Kent County Board of Election Supervisors is located at 135 Dixon Drive and is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, except holidays. Forms and information regarding mail-in registration may be obtained from the Kent County Board of Election Supervisors, 410-778-0038.
