HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMISSION
JANUARY 4, 2023
Ms. Victoria Smith called the Historic District Commission meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. In attendance were Commission Members Barbara Brown, Robert Busler, David Holman, Michael McDowell, Rebecca Murphy, and Kees de Mooy (Zoning Administrator) and guests.
Ms. Smith stated that the Chestertown Historic District Commission takes its authority from Chapter 93 of the Code of the Town of Chestertown and operates under the Historic District Design Guidelines that were adopted by the Mayor and Council of Chestertown on October 7, 2002, and revised March 7, 2012.
The items on the consent calendar were as follows:
1. BP2022-178 – Wagner, 225 N. Kent Street – roof;
2. BP2022-183 – Wander, 212 S. Water Street – roof;
Ms. Murphy moved to approve the following as presented.

The motion was seconded by Mr. Busler and passed unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was BP2022-177 – Saunders, 223 Washington Ave. – window replacement. Mr. Jimmy Jones, JLC Property Resources, was present for the application. The work consists of dormer windows on the front of the house, and three windows on the rear addition to be replaced by same size Anderson clad window with dividers.
Mr. Busler made a motion to approve BP2022-177 – Saunders, 223 Washington Ave. – window replacement, as submitted. The motion was seconded by Ms. Murphy and passed unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was BP2022-180 – Dietz, 329 Cannon St. – sign. Mr. Tom Dietz, Skipjack Studios, was present for the application. Work will consist of a main sign to be screwed into the wall on the side of the building and attaching lower signs to the existing sign with eye hooks.
Ms. Murphy made a motion to approve BP2022-180 – Dietz, 329 Cannon St. – sign, as submitted. The motion was seconded by Mr. McDowell and passed unanimously.
The next item on the agenda was BP2022-182 – Flory, 108 Maple Ave. – chimney repair and rear vestibule. The homeowner was present for the application. Work will consist of repair and painting of existing wood windows in the 1794 section of the house and enclosing the rear vestibule. Existing chimneys will have caps installed to prevent animal and water infiltration.
Mr. Busler made a motion to approve BP2022-182 – Flory, 108 Maple Ave. – chimney repair and rear vestibule, as submitted. The motion was seconded by Ms. Murphy and passed unanimously.
Ms. Smith reported that Washington College withdrew their permit to demolish the Armory. They are speaking with the Maryland State General Services Department about what is allowed and may come back for a permit at a later date.
There being no further business, Ms. Murphy moved to adjourn the meeting at 4:35 p.m., was seconded by Ms. Brown and passed unanimously.
