UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
JUNE 1, 2020
Mayor Cerino called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m. In attendance were Council members David Foster, Thomas Herz, Ellsworth Tolliver and Meghan Efland, Bob Sipes (Utilities Manager), Jennifer Mulligan (Town Clerk) and guests.
Mayor Cerino asked if there were any additions or corrections to the Utilities Commission meeting minutes of May 4, 2020. Ms. Efland moved to approve the minutes of May 4, 2020 as submitted, was seconded by Rev. Tolliver and carried unanimously.
Mayor Cerino stated that cash on hands for the Utilities Commission was $2,113,209.65 with $1,024,400.00 set aside for capital projects.
Mayor Cerino asked for a motion to pay the bills. Ms. Efland moved to pay bills as submitted, was seconded by Rev. Tolliver and carried unanimously.
Mr. Sipes stated that the work on the valves and fire hydrant on Campus Avenue is complete and are now in working order. Permanent blacktopping has now taken place on both Campus and Greenwood Avenues, replacing the temporary patches.
Mr. Sipes stated that the drive for one of the two clarifiers at the Wastewater Treatment Plant is going bad and he is waiting for parts to arrive. He said that he had been unable to get in contact with the company (which was in Poland) to find out where the order was. He said that it is only a matter of time until the clarifier fails. The second clarifier would work as the only one on line as long as there was not too heavy a rain. Mr. Sipes stated that the clarifier rotates constantly moving the sludge so that solids cannot build up in the system. He said that if the drive actually fails it will be taken offline and the operations will be adjusted until the parts arrive and the repair can be made.
There being no further questions or comments, Mr. Herz moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 p.m., was seconded by Rev. Tolliver and carried unanimously.
