Chestertown Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes 2/15/18

Members present: Amy Meeks, Carol Mylander

Interested person present: Donna Resue

Donna Resue would like to offer a free Tai Chi event on 4/28/18 at Wilmer Park. It would be open to the community. She was referred to the Town Office for a permit. The commission will help spread the word about the event.

Paint night update: Partnership with Kent County Library. All slots were filled. There was a waiting list for possible cancelations. Everyone left with a smile. It was a very successful event!

Possible events during the winter months: indoor movies at Sultana, BINGO at the firehouse (who has equipment to borrow/should we purchase?)

Summer movies in Fountain Park: in conjunction with First Friday? Amy will contact the town regarding availability of the park. We need a list of movie suggestions for showing- Amy will ask Emily what some popular movies might be. Can we partner with the library and use their license? Amy will ask Annie and Natalie at the library.

Washington Park Day: July 28th. In need of vendors (food, craft, and clothing). How can the commission help make the event successful?

Washington Park grant update: Should hear something by May- application was submitted. If grant is not obtained, find out what the residents would like first (pavilion or walking trail) and start implementing plan. A fence is needed around the electrical equipment- is this something Rebuilding Together can help with? Amy will email Lindsey at Rebuilding Together.

Pocket park Cannon and Kent: should we put a bench there?

Health Department Egg Hunt: The Rec Commission will partner with other agencies to help make this event successful. Perhaps sponsor a bouncy house?

Future event suggestions: Dance at Wilmer Park, Earth Day event (bouncy house), Gagaball at Bailey Park

Next meeting March 15, 2018 @ 6pm. Location TBD.
