Town Charter – Chapter 30: Recreation Commission

Pursuant to § 17(d) and (rr) of the Municipal Charter for the town, there is hereby established a Recreation Commission. This Commission shall consist of seven persons serving without pay, who shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by at least two Council members. Recently Completed Projects

Current & Future Projects

  • New playground equipment will be coming soon to Carpenter Park in the Washington Park neighborhood
  • Developing an overall Parks and Recreation Plan for the Town
  • Developing a plan for Bailey Park
  • Kayak rentals will be available on the waterfront in the Spring
  • Researching a community trail to connect Carpenter Park with Coventry Farms
  • Surplus playground equipment from Worton Elementary School will move to Chestertown
  • Considering installing lights at the Gateway and Carpenter Park basketball courts
  • Working with Kent Co to extend the Wayne Gilchrest Rail Trail to Worton and potentially beyond
  • Moving towards construction of the Waterfront Heritage Trail along the Chester River
