UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
JULY 10, 2017
Mayor Cerino called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Council members Liz Gross, Linda C. Kuiper, Samuel T. Shoge and Mauritz Stetson, Bob Sipes (Utilities Manager), Jennifer Mulligan (Town Clerk), and guests.
Mayor Cerino asked if there were any additions or corrections to the Utilities Commission meeting minutes of June 6, 2017. Mr. Stetson moved to approve the minutes as presented, was seconded by Ms. Gross and carried unanimously.
Mayor Cerino stated that operating funds on hand is $940,457.16 and an additional $597,000.00 was set aside in capital funds for a total of $1,537,457.16.
Mayor Cerino asked for a motion to pay the bills. Ms. Gross moved to pay the bills as submitted, was seconded by Mr. Stetson and carried unanimously.
Mr. Sipes stated that he gave a tour at the Waste Water Treatment Plan for the Explorers Group at Washington College. He said that if anyone wanted a tour they should call Town Hall to have it arranged.
Mr. Sipes stated that the touchscreen at the Waste Water Treatment Plant broke and a new one was being installed this week.
Mr. Sipes stated that the Chemscan, which monitors ammonia, nitrates and phosphorous among other things, is to the point that a complete overhaul is required. He said that he was contacting the company who makes them but they will have to send a team from Connecticut to perform the job. Travel time will be included in the billing.
Mr. Sipes stated that lead and copper sampling bottles will be dropped off soon to those who participate in the program. He said that this was an annual collection from some residents as part of the Safe Drinking Water Act.
Mr. Sipes stated that he signed and was ready to send in the documents so the Town would receive $30,000.00 in grant funding from MDE, for BNR/ENR chemicals. Funding came through the Bay Restoration Fund.
Mr. Sipes stated that the RFP for underground mapping was finished. He said that he would send each of the Council a copy so they could review and make any changes or additions.
Ms. Gross asked what the work trucks were doing along Campus Avenue and Kent Street. Mr. Ingersoll stated that Delmarva Power was upgrading electric in some parts of Town, noting that the work may be done by Pepco trucks as they are owned by the same parent company.
There being no further business, Mr. Stetson moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:42 p.m. was seconded by Mr. Shoge and carried unanimously.
