UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
MARCH 16, 2015
Mayor Cerino called the meeting to order at 7:46 p.m. In attendance were Council members Liz Gross, Linda Kuiper, Samuel T. Shoge and Mauritz Stetson, Robert Sipes, Utilities Manager, Jennifer Mulligan, Town Clerk, and guests.
Mayor Cerino asked if there were any additions or corrections to the Utilities Commission meeting minutes of February 17, 2015. Mr. Stetson moved to approve the minutes as presented, was seconded by Ms. Gross and carried unanimously.
Mayor Cerino stated that cash on hand and in banks was $864,560.97 and there was $223,400.00 set aside in capital funds.
Mayor Cerino asked for a motion to pay the bills. Mr. Stetson moved to pay the bills as submitted, was seconded by Ms. Gross and carried unanimously.
Mr. Sipes stated that a service line was leaking on Rt. 213 and the repair was done at night. He said that there would be some expenses associated with working on State Highways because they needed new signs and light towers. He said the equipment would be in upcoming bills.
Mr. Sipes stated that the Utilities Department was still working on the grease clogged sewer line at Scheeler Road. He said they have gotten 60’ into the line so far but he would not finish until he got the line all the way through.
Mr. Sipes stated that the new replacement generators would be delivered in the beginning of April for the Rt. 291 pump station and the main Radcliffe pump station.
Mr. Sipes stated that he conducted a tour of the Waste Water Treatment Plant for some of the Washington College Students and they seemed to enjoy it.
Mr. Sipes stated that in regard to the Hospital oil spill, a response from MDE on the Pilot Study Report and proposed future plans has not been received. He said the Town was in a “waiting” status until that was received.
Mr. David Foster, Chestertown resident, stated that he thought there was supposed to be another public hearing before anything additional was done at the hospital recovery wells. Mayor Cerino stated that he and Mr. Kozell signed a letter requesting a public meeting with MDE and he was waiting for them to schedule it, noting that he thought it would be held in Chestertown.
There being no further business, Ms. Gross moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:57 p.m., was seconded by Mr. Shoge and carried unanimously.
