CHESTERTOWN UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING

SEPTEMBER 5, 2023

Mayor Foster called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. In attendance were Councilmembers Tim O’Brien, Tom Herz, Jose Medrano and Meghan Efland, Bob Sipes (Utilities Manager), Larry DiRe (Town Manager), Lynda Thomas (Town Clerk) and guests.

Mayor Foster asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the Utilities Commission meeting of August 7, 2023.  Councilman O’Brien made a motion to approve the minutes of the Utilities Commission meeting of August 7, 2023, as presented. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Efland and passed unanimously.

Mayor Foster stated that the operating funds on hand were $2,779,439.50. He asked for a motion to pay the bills. Councilwoman Efland made a motion to pay the bills. The motion was seconded by Councilman Herz and passed unanimously.

Mayor Foster called on Mr. Sipes for his Utilities Commission report.

Mr. Sipes reported that the maintenance of well number 9 was complete. The inside of the well has been repaired and the outside has been painted.

Mr. Sipes reported that the hydrant at 213 has been fixed and painted.

Mr. Sipes reported that he had received the spare rotating assembly for the main pump at the water plant. If needed, the crew can fix the pump without the wait time.

Mr. Sipes reported that Lywood had replaced the fiber at the wastewater treatment plant. The new fiber had worked for two (2) days and stopped.  Lywood would be sending a person to fix it.

Mr. Sipes reported that he, the Town Manager, the engineers, and architects had a Leed meeting regarding the new building. He noted that more research was needed. Leed has more to do with proximity to walking trails, energy that is already on site, and other factors to qualify as Green.

Mr. Sipes said that was all he had to report. Mayor Foster asked if there were any other questions for Mr. Sipes. There being no further business, Councilman O’Brien motioned to adjourn the meeting at 6:10 p.m. The motion was seconded by Councilman Herz and passed unanimously.
